Just days after being announced as the world’s tallest living dog, Kevin the Great Dane he has sadly passed away, according to Guinness World Records press release published Monday.

“We are deeply saddened to learn that Kevin passed away suddenly after unexpected health complications,” a Guinness spokesperson said.

Kevin fell ill shortly after his new title was announced and tragically died during an unplanned surgery. Tracy Wolfe, his owner, is the director of a local veterinary clinic and her team cared for Kevin personally.

“Tracy and the team at the veterinary clinic where she works did everything they could to save Kevin after he fell ill,” the spokesperson added. “Our thoughts and support are with the Wolfe family as they navigate this difficult time.”

Kevin got the title of world’s tallest dog from measuring at 3 feet 2 inches from paws to withers, which is about the size of a human toddler and 6 inches taller than the average Great Dane. And when standing on his hind legs, Kevin was almost 7 feet tall!

“We’re so happy that he was able to break the record and have that light on him,” Wolfe said. “He absolutely loved the attention. I wish these giant breeds, and all dogs, could live longer than they do. There is never enough time.”

Rest in peace, Kevin. We hope you make lots of giant dog friends in the sky.
