A heroic dog ran nearly four miles for help after his owner’s truck plunged into a ravine Sunday, according to a news release issued by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office.
Brandon Garrett of Halfway, Oregon, and his four dogs were traveling north on US Forest Service Road 39 on Sunday, June 2, in Baker County, Oregon, when Garrett lost control of his vehicle and went off the road and onto the riverbank below.
Luckily, one of Garrett’s pups knew exactly what to do. After exiting the vehicle, Garrett’s dog, Blue, walked nearly four miles overnight to where Garrett’s family was worriedly waiting at their campsite. From there, Blue and Garrett’s family members returned to the crash scene to locate Garrett’s truck and call for help. Due to the rugged terrain, family members were unable to reach Garrett and the crash site on their own.
But thanks to Blue’s heroic actions, Garrett and his three other dogs were found alive in the “steep, brushy ravine” by the Baker County Sheriff’s Office, Baker County Search and Rescue, Fire District Pine Valley Rural Fire and the Midway Ambulance on the morning of Monday, June 3. Two of the dogs suffered some broken bones but are expected to be OK. Garrett was airlifted to an Idaho hospital by helicopter and later released. He’s “beaten but recovering” according to his brother.
No photos of the dogs have been released yet, but Blue and Garrett’s other dogs are said to be pitbull mixesaccording to a person close to the family. It’s no surprise, as we know another pitbullwhich stopped the help of a passerby and saved the life of its owner just a few years ago.
